A Nip & a Tuck

May 14

You may, or may not have noticed some changes around here. That is, if anyone actually reads my blog any more. I’m still working out some of the kinks in my websites design, but all in all it’s coming along quite well. I’ve simplified some things; removing search; displaying one item on the front page; moved the resume and portfolio into the blog (the resume was its own WordPress install, and the portfolio just… didn’t exist); added a real, honest to God contact page. Things are looking up!

I’m still having a couple issues of course, that I’m trying to figure out (mystery htaccess file issues, CSS tweaks, ) but I’m sure I can get these figured out in the next little while. Anyways, on to things that are important to people other than me.

Too tired for a witty post title

Apr 05

Yeah so I sort of didn’t post at all for like, 5 weeks. Amazing how time passes when you’re busy as hell during the end of days. I’ve been doing assignments and working and flying across the world and playing some games and learning Japanese and probably some other stuff. Yeah, I guess you could say that I’ve been a touch on the busy side.

Such is the life of a student.

8 Things I’ve learned from going back to school

Dec 18

So a while back I mentioned going back to school. In fact, I even recall writing a collection of articles all about the subject. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it in my twitter (or at the very least, bitched about it). Well unlike the real world, College gives you large, void-filled breaks between semesters. This allows people like me ample time to run out of excuses for things we should have either done, or been doing during the academic time frame.

In my case this revolves around:

  • My portfolio
  • Posts with real content
  • Reading books
  • Spending time with Theresa while she is down from that god-forsaken place North Bay.
  • Aimlessly trying to catch up on my games

Now since only a couple of those are actually proactive (I’ll leave you to decide which) I have to pick and choose what and when I do these things. What is the result? Well to give you a glimpse, it’s almost 2 AM as of the start of this post. This is after I applied to many, many bursaries through my school. Who knew that working two jobs wouldn’t be enough to actually stay out of debt? Guess I’ll have to get some more!

My financial woes are not what I plan to talk about today though. I plan to talk about what I can take away from my first semester.

Okay, technically this would be my seventh semester if you are counting the six from the last time I was in school. That is also part of this so read on!

The U.S. has way more interesting elections

Nov 06

That’s sort of a crime, don’t you think? They have two major parties, and the candidates vie for supremacy until it is down to two presidential candidates and their running mates. Then those two groups campaign for over a year, and then on election night, every possible station is glued to the election and they bust out some sweet technology to make all this shit that much cooler. To top it all off, at the end of the night, both the winner and the loser give solid, stand-along speeches that actually make you nod your head, tear-up, or just feel proud.

Canada has four major parties (yes, I count the Greens as a major party) they campaign for a couple months, and then with a record low vote, we elect an idiot and his gay-hating friends. The election night didn’t even have a good representation of what was going on, and I ended up using the Internet to find a better breakdown of what the hell was going on. I don’t recall any speeches that actually struck a chord with me, and I’m a God-damned Canadian.

This shit is bananas.

Blog Action Day: Poverty in Canada

Oct 15

As a bit of a change of pace, I’m going to talk about Poverty. I’ve joined with many, many other online writers today to join in and participate in talking about this years subject (Poverty, in case you forgot).

I thought at first about writing about Poverty all over the world. Then I thought about writing about Poverty in your own country. That’s when I realized I could talk about my own country, because damn it, I live here and this shit’s important. This is probably one of the issues closest to my heart on this planet and I’ll be damned to give up an opportunity to help.

A Classical Admittance

Sep 29

I’ve got something to admit to. A secret that I’ve had for a long time. Something that very few people know about me, and I’ve kept this quiet for a very long time. I’ve had somewhat of a re-awakening to something that I though I had left behind me.

I like classical music. Beyond that I’m a fan of opera, all forms of choir music, and even musicals. I even have a keen spot in my heart for well-arranged soundtrack of both T.V. and Movie.

That’s right people, I’m basically a monocle-wearing classical enthusiast.

Kam

Sep 22

I was always a loser.

Seriously, I was. I got picked on at school for every possible reason: Mamas boy, nerd, totally out of style, ugly, etc. etc. The usual stuff, I know, but it hurt all the same. High school wasn’t any better. I never had a girlfriend. Hell, I barely had friends, and they weren’t exactly the socialites of the century either. Like minds stick together and all that I guess.

Breakdown

Sep 11

This is possibly a re-post from my old website. I don’t remember if I ever posted it.

Slap!

The sound seems to reverberate off of every surface, every facet, even off of the very brushes of the wind.

What did he do now? He stands rooted to the spot, twisting from the trunk of his being, recoiling from the pain and indignation that is pulses through him like the blow to his face that he now nurses. She screams at him, ferociously she tares yet another strip from him as she screeches far-flung accusations at him. He seems slightly confused; you can see it in his eyes.

General Improvements

Sep 04

Holy hell, a personal post! You know what that means everyone: Corey doesn’t have anything specific to write about, but is guilt-ridden enough to write something in an attempt to rid himself of the self-loathing that he’s now feeling.

Thankfully, I’ve got enough random crap to talk about, that it will actually seem like I’ve somehow planned this post. I should at least be able to get back to my regular schedule for posting stuff now that I’m in school (somebody quote me on this when I’m studying my brains out and abandon the schedule once again.)

Side note: Do you say “skedual” or “scheduel”? I found that after watching far too much Doctor Who over the years that I’ve been converted to saying “scheduel” instead of skedual.” Ruined me, I tell you.

Vindicate

Sep 01

This is possibly a re-post from my old website. I don’t remember if I ever posted it.

“Well. That didn’t go nearly as good as I had originally envisioned.” The prisoner stated, as we dragged him down the hallway. “Oh well. Can’t blame a guy for trying can ya?” Indeed we couldn’t. The man was to stand trial, and as usual, it will be a mere formality. Even the innocent are not safe from the Kings ‘justice’ anymore. Granted, this one was guilty, and we all knew, as we had caught him last night in a raid into some of the rebel hovels that are hidden, scattered amidst the city like festering wounds on an otherwise pristine body.

At least that’s what the king says. He seems to have gone a little off in recent days, should truth be told. No one will utter a word in even the most hushed tones of such happenings. The King has eyes, ears, and blades all around, and those who speak against him are either publicly executed, or simply cease to exist.
